Belvedere-Hawthorne Nursery Schools, Inc. ("BHNS") is a private non-profit organization owned and operated by the parents who have children attending Belvedere Nursery School and/or Hawthorne Pre-K. The Board of Directors is responsible for policy-making. Recommendations from the teaching Directors provide important guidance for Board decisions. Board members are elected annually by the parent body and serve volunteer terms of one to three years.

The corporation uses registration and tuition fees to fund the operating budget. The Board of Directors funds the school's reserves through fundraising activities. The reserves provide scholarship programs, major renovations to property, replacement of equipment and furniture, and a reserve for unforeseen emergencies.

The Board of Directors employs two Directors -- one for Belvedere Nursery School and one for Hawthorne Pre-K. Each of them is responsible for running the operations at each school and develops the curriculum.

The teachers are highly qualified and trained in early childhood education. Belvedere-Hawthorne Nursery Schools has a reputation for a low rate of teacher turnover. The majority of teachers have taught at Belvedere Nursery School and/or Hawthorne Pre-K for at least five year, and several have taught for ten years or more. We maintain a child/staff ratio of six to one for the Tuesday/Thursday program and seven to one for the Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Hawthorne Pre-K programs.
